| Donna King's chipmunks |
Regional sculptor Donna King is a jack of all trades when it come to the arts - ceramic sculptor, wedding cake expert and florist. From the exquisite detail in her sculpture it is easy to see how she would do well in all three careers.
Donna is self taught although she has taken classes at a local community college. She is married to a professional potter who is on hand always to answer her questions!
Donna's one of a kind animals are hand built and hand carved, with smaller scultors taking over a day to make just one, and as many as four weeks to dry slowly to prevent cracking from moisture loss.Donna begins each one by creating a base or mount and then slowly builds the sculpture up from there. In making the opossum, she created the gnarly log, then hand forms a small opossum to add to it, then ads another baby and then the mother opossum and so on until the dimension, scale and scope is perfect to her eyes. She does not use molds and never has.
