A Touch of Yellow for Men

The Gallery is not just for women - we have lovely items for men too. Our handmade cuff links by Cecilia Tappan Minnehan will enhance formal attire. She is an expert silversmith from her native Peru. This pair features the gemstones tiger eye, adventurine and river stone.

Men rave about our bow ties from Beau Ties of Vermont. They come in all colors and patterns - sure to please any age. When they find our huge selection, most men buy several - bow ties are not easy to come by, never mind handmade ones like these.

For the golf tees, spare change or any other small treasure, these small pouches of elk leather are a hit with the more sports oriented men. The leather is hand stitched and the closures are ancient walrus ivory from the Alaskan Tundra by artist Evenlight Eagles.

More info on each artist is available - just click on their name! For more sunny yellow today visit Mellow Yellow Monday.

For the Birds.......

Local wood carver, Phil Brown's hand carved birds are the favorite of our bird loving customers. He is one of the premier bird carvers in the nation. The Gallery carries his native bird species including these two - the purple finch and cardinal.

Also for the bird lovers we have Ken Wheeler's eclectic bird houses - made from scraps of lumber from an old barn on his property. They can be used outdoors with a detachable panel for cleaning or just a a fun decor indoors or on a porch.

We are playing Rednesday today so be sure to visit their other posts!

Susan Phillips

The history of civilization is recorded in scraps of fiber and on shards of pottery. As a weaver and a potter, Susan Phillips is inspired by the beauty and the ingenuity of the everyday objects that our ancestors created under extraordinarily difficult conditions. She feels a strong connection to their struggles to create beauty in very functional pieces. She hopes that future potters will find a touch of beauty and inspiration from her work.

We have carried her birdhouses in the past. These lanterns are great for the garden or patio, giving a Eastern look to the setting. The salamander birdbath features the native salamanders. Her pine cone birdhouse is quite popular this summer and makes for a lovely gift.

Sondra Dorn

Sondra's magnetic silk pins are one of our more unique items. Each pin is made of 100% silk fabric digitally printed with fiber reactive dyes and archivally mounted on Baltic birch.

She photographs and draws from nature, then uses the computer to play with color, composition and scale. The resulting images are fanciful fragments - close-ups of natural objects like rocks and mica, and slices of landscapes both real and imagined.

This photo shows the back of the pin and the magnet - just put the pin on your blouse where you want it and slide the magnet inside the blouse to click on the magnetic strip and voila!

Leedra Scott

Leedra Scott has been a photographer over 40 years, receiving her first camera when she was 12 or 13 years old. She began digital photography in 2007, and started selling her photography at that time.

Her images are very simple and yet beautiful in their simplicity - flowers, birds, and nature scenes. Some have lovely quotes about the subject photographed.

Mountains and Flowers

Welcome to Blue Monday! The blue cone flower on this lovely pottery jar is a specialty of Lisa Conard, a local potter. What a cheerful addition to any kitchen. (W no longer carry this design of Lisa Conard but do carry her lovely maple leaf pattern.)

These cloth postcards are unique and handmade by Joy Cafaro. This one depicts our Blue Ridge Mountains receding into the horizon. They can be mailed just like regular postcards and are sure to make a great impression on the receiver.

This lovely photo note card is by Leedra Scott, a new artist to the Gallery. We have not gotten her bio online yet but isn't this a stunning photo of a blue hydrangea - one of my favorite flowers.

Just click on the name of the artists if you want to know more about them. Make sure you stop by Blue Monday for more blue posts!

Santa is in Town!

Local wood carver Bobbie Carnell does only a limited number of her carved Santa's each year and we just got the first shipment in. Aren'tt hey precious? Each one is minutely detailed and has unique qualities that set it apart from the others.

The Santas range in size from 12 inches for the taller ones to about 5 inches for the stocky Santas. Bobbie is self taught in her craft and says "At age 75, I'm finally at the top of my game!"

For more reds check out Rednesday!

Tisha Cook

Local potter Tisha Cook can't decide what she loves more - throwing pots on a wheel or hand building. She loves hand building giraffe families - the parent and baby or two parents and a baby. Since she was young, she dreamed of giraffes, drew them and always saved her allowance to buy some semblance of a giraffe, no matter how small.

In addition to her pottery giraffes, Tisha creates a good balance by going back to the potter's wheel to make vases and bottles. Tall, short, skinny or bulbous, she gives each piece a great deal of attention and the smallest detail is meticulously fashioned. Every piece is thrown, trimmed, glazed and fires by her.

"Right now", explains Tish,"I am the glaze and kiln technician at a local ceramic teaching center. I love the science, technology and chemistry involved with the studio's many kilns."

The Gallery carries several color glazes and of course her giraffe families.
